The Biden administration has announced that the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) and National Emergency (NE) declarations will come to an end on May 11, 2023. As a result, there will be changes to the terms of your health plan and the coverage available to you under your plan. Please take a moment to review the following:
COVID-19 Vaccines, Testing, and Treatments
Effective March 18, 2020, and through the end of the PHE period as determined by the Department of Health and Human Services, your medical plan was required to cover, without cost sharing, various items and services related to COVID-19. These included over the counter COVID-19 tests and medically appropriate in-vitro COVID-19 diagnostic testing, in- and out-of-network administration of COVID-19 vaccines, and certain medications for the treatment of COVID-19.
After the PHE ends on May 11, 2023, your coverage will change as follows:
- A limit of four (4) OTC COVID-19 at-home tests or two (2) boxes containing 4 tests per covered individual will be covered under your prescription medical plan per month. You must continue to purchase these at the approved locations: Walmart, CVS, Kroger, Sam’s, Welldyne, Alto, Albertsons, Vons and Lin’s Pharmacy (these are considered reimbursable expenses under a flexible spending account or health savings account; cost sharing or coinsurance may apply
- Medically appropriate COVID-19 tests will be covered in accordance with your standard medical plan benefits; cost sharing or coinsurance may apply
- In-network vaccination administration will continue to be covered without cost-sharing as a preventive service, while coverage of out-of-network vaccine administration will be determined in accordance with your standard medical plan benefits; cost sharing or coinsurance may apply
- COVID-19 medications and treatments will be covered in accordance with your standard medical & prescription plan benefits; cost sharing or coinsurance may apply
