COBRA is a government mandated program that allows you and your covered dependents to temporarily continue your THT coverage. This usually applies to teachers who seek other employment, or whose dependents are no longer covered by the primary.

Eligibility
Each individual who was covered under the plan on the day before the qualifying event occurred is a “qualified beneficiary” and can elect to continue coverage independently.
Standard COBRA eligibility is 18 months long; however, you may be entitled to a longer period depending on your life event.
Members are only eligible to enroll in the same benefits plans in which they were enrolled in prior to their termination from the plan.
COBRA forms will be mailed to the qualified beneficiary directly after the processing of their termination from the policy by WEX Health Inc. The last day to elect coverage is 60 calendar days from the date of your COBRA notification letter.
COBRA will be effective the first of the month following your termination from the plan so there is no gap in coverage.
First Steps
There are two ways you can elect COBRA:
- Complete and return the COBRA election form to WEX Health Inc. by mail.
- Complete the online election form.
Making Monthly Payments
Once you elect COBRA, you must pay your account current within 45 days of your election postmark date.
COBRA premiums are due on an ongoing basis on the first of the month, and there’s a 30-day grace period. If you don’t postmark your payment within the 30-day grace period, your coverage will be terminated.
There are three ways to make a payment (cash is not accepted):
- Mail in a check with a payment coupon that WEX Health Inc.
- Set up recurring monthly ACH withdrawals from your checking or savings account via the WEB COBRA Mobile App or on the WEX portal (no additional fees)
- Pay online via debit or credit card (adds a $20 processing fee to the monthly premium rate).

ID Cards
Please keep your current insurance benefit cards. In most cases, you’ll continue to use them if you elect COBRA. Please also keep in mind that all benefit claims are handled by the benefit carriers (e.g. UMR, EMI, Cigna, VSP, etc.).
